This research paper analyzes the 2017 film Beauty and the Beast using narrative and genre theory. It explores how the story, based on the 1740 novel La Belle et la Bête, emphasizes the value of inner beauty over physical appearance. Through qualitative analysis, the film’s narrative structure is examined using Tzvetan Todorov’s five stages and Vladimir Propp’s character roles, while also addressing its binary oppositions, such as beauty versus beast.
